After five long years there is some stunning decision from the High Court of Karnataka. For the case filed in IAS official of government of Karnataka K Shivaramu why the government officials should not act in films, the court verdict has been very clear.

In recent judgment the HC said the government officials should not act in films. When BC Patil as a cop acted, produced and directed the Karnataka Police chief Mr Dinakaran raised objections in those days.

Justice Ananda Byrareddy on Tuesday dismissed a petition filed by K Shivaramu, senior IAS officer who had acted in some Kannada films, challenging the March 9, 2004 government order prohibiting all government servants, including IAS officers, from acting in films and TV serials.

"Working after office hours will affect the performance. There are instances of government servants bringing pressure on cinema hall owners to screen the films in which they acted. A citizen joining government service cannot effectively exercise many of the fundamental rights like settling in any part of India practice any profession or trade or business, taking part in elections... Restrictions are in consonance with the limitations that a government servant is faced with. If permission is given on one or two occasions, it doesn't create a vested right,'' the judge has observed.

With a decision the first one to affect is Mr Shivaramu K. He is the principal Secretary of the Government of Karnataka as on today. The first one to pass IAS in Kannada was getting ready for a film to mount. It was based on Dr Arthi Venkatesh novel ‘Anthargatha’.

K.Shivaramu has obtained the permission and director Sanjay of ‘Namma Preethiya Ramu’ was getting ready the screenplay.
