Gossip winery is abuzz that Mani Ratnam’s dream project Ponniyin Selvan that is to be made with Mahesh Babu, Vijay and Arya had been put on the backburner! This film is a historical movie set in period backdrop and needs crores of rupees.

A rough estimate says that Ponniyin Selvan needs at least Rs. 100 crores. That is a huge amount and many producers including few corporate groups are not ready to risk on this movie. Also this film lacks commercial elements says the buzz. Hence, no one is willing to spend so much money on it and Mani Ratnam’s previous film Raavan’s result is making them to think twice.

Superstar Rajinikanth Discharged From Hospital

Superstar Rajinikanth was admitted in hospital on Friday as he suffered from dehydration. Rajini was present at the muhurath of Rana movie on Friday morning but he was completely off color as he has been suffering from minor illness for last few days.

Rajinikanth complained about uneasiness and was immediately rushed to the hospital. This news has sent shiver down the spines of his millions of Rajini fans. However, his son in law made it clear that the superstar is fine and it is just a minor health issue.

Doctors suggested for few days rest and Rajinikanth was discharged from hospital. Rana schedule will go ahead and Rajini won’t be part of first schedule. KS Ravi Kumar said that he would shoot scenes on Deepika Padukone and Rajini will join later.

Old City Popular Leader Akbaruddin Owaisi shot - Old City on High Alert

akbaruddin owaisi, popular leader in old city of Hyderabad, floor leader and MLA from Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) party is shot few minutes ago at Barkas while participating in a dispute settlement. Akbaruddin’s brother-in-law Mohammed Pahilwan along with four more followers came there riding on horses and fired four rounds of bullets at MLA and then attacked with Talwars on MLA and his associates on the spot.

Ahmed Balala (Malakpet MLA) suffered minor injuries in this attack and old city is immediately kept under high alert. Owaisi is immediately rushed to Owaisi Hospital in Santosh Nagar. Doctors are calling the situation of Owaisi as very critical with one of the bullets piercing directly into the heart region. Sources say that land dispute between the families is a reason behind the attack.

I was not prepared physically and mentally. Even I’ve decided to work only with those directors who have fully finished script in hand,’ says Ram. Now, it is to be seen how far this savior story of Surender Reddy is well handled by junior ntr.

After rubbishing rumours of getting into workshops to get the 'right feel' for his love making scenes with Vidya Balan in 'The Dirty Picture', Tusshar Kapoor is now saying that the duo would be content referring to the steamy sequence between Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit for 'Parinda' (1989).

"In any case all this workshop talks sounded really weird at the very first place," says a source close to Tusshar, "It was all so scandalous and frankly even Tusshar was taken aback with such rumours. All he had confirmed was doing a workshop to hone his chemistry with Vidya but the next immediate thing he read was about the love making element being included as a part of this exercise. He was totally misquoted."

Apparently the makers of the film immediately got into the act and told their actors that there were no such plans and anything overtly intimate was definitely out of the workshop agenda. Instead Tusshar and Vidya were asked to refer to the DVD of 'Parinda' and closely study the physical proximity between Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit as seen in the song 'Tumse Milke'.

Confirms Tusshar, "Yes, 'Parinda' is definitely a reference point here. Of course there is no point copying it as-is but then if one has to ever dig into archives and find out a classily shot love making scene, 'Tumse Milke' wins hands down. What Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit did there was sexy but then definitely not in a bad taste."

Comedy King Vadivelu Hits Out At Super Star Rajnikanth

Vadivelu, who campaigned for the ruling DMK-led Front in the April 13 Assembly polls, indirectly flayed Rajnikanth for dropping him from his forthcoming film Rana.

Addressing media persons after calling on Chief Minister and DMK President M Karunanidhi, he said, 'Vadivelu said that he was not bothered about being dropped from Rajni's Rana, the shooting for which commenced this morning.'

'Both of them have starred together in several films, including the box office hit Chandramukhi.'

'Whether it is Rana or Gana...I am not bothered about it', Vadivelu said in a sarcastic tone. when asked on being dropped from the film, which
would be Rajnikanth's first period film.

'The scenes and seasons will change after May 13 (the day when counting of votes polled in the polls will be taken up', he said.

The Super Star today started shooting for Raana, directed by K S Ravikumar. Produced by Soundarya Rajnikanth's Ochre Studios in association with Eros International, the movie features the actor in triple roles.

A huge set resembling palace of 17th century was erected at AVM Studios in Chennai, where Rajnikanth appeared for shoot. No sooner the news of Rajnikanth present at the venue spread, fans and common people thronged the place in large numbers and tight security was provided. Entry to the sets was restricted.

It is an interesting story and I enjoy being part of it, the Enthiran star said. Meanwhile, Soundarya Rajnikanth expressed her optimism that Raana would come out well and would be a treat for Rajnikanth's fans. Deepika Padukone plays Rajnikanth's heroine and the movie has cinematography by Rathanavelu and music by A R Rahman.

Daggubati Rana, Dhanush And Aadukalam

Telugu actor Rana, grandson of legendary producer D Rama Naidu, has heaped laurels on Kollywood star Dhanush for his performance in Aadukalam, which hit the screens during January.

'Watched Aadukalam at a special show in Hyderabad. Stunned with the performance of Dhanush. My appreciation to the director, Vettrimaran, too,' said Rana, who is eager to know the result of his fresh film Nenu Na Raksashi.

The young actor added: 'Getting emotions out of a rooster is a tough job and Vettrimaran has done it The film will be a milestone in Dhanush’s career.' Meanwhile, Rana has stepped into Bollywood too.

Is G V a copy cat??

The latest buzz is that G V Prakash for one of his songs in Vikram-starrer Dheiva Thirumagan, composed by young G V Prakash Kumar, has taken the tune from a 2007 Hindi song.

Karthik S, a blogger who chronicles instances of plagiarism in Indian film music, writes ‘We have the song, Jagada Thom, sung by S P Balasubrahmanyam, Maya and Mahesh, borrowing its prominent and repetitive hook from Amaan Ali Khan and Ayaan Ali Khan’s 2007 song, Truth, from an album by the same name. The song also featured Ustad Amjad Ali Khan saab and Subhalakshmi Khan.’

At the same time, Karthik has also mentioned that this is a subtle lift.
Meanwhile, circles close to Prakash have denied the allegations, ‘Those who have heard both the songs could spot the difference easily. It is not new for two music composers to come out with same kind of song. Because music is common to all.’

Since couple of months, 'Evan Di Unna Pethan' was not just a song in Vaanam but it was a synonym for the movie and Silambarasan, to whom belongs the lyrics and voice credit. Vaanam is a remake of the Telugu movie Vedam, which turned out to be a mega hit of 2010. Director Radhakrishna, introduced in Tamil as Krish presents Vaanam, which shows the lives of five individuals, their needs, their desperation to achieve it and their destinies, which brings them together. Will they abandon their needs for others? Is it really a materialistic world we live in?

Cable Raja (Simbhu), a slum dweller in Chennai, who works in his neighborhood cable TV. Bharath (Bharath), a military brat from Bangalore, who aspires to be a rock star against his parent's wish. Saroja (Anushka), a sex worker in Andhra, who wants to flee her brothel to start her own. Hamid (Prakash Raj) from Coimbatore, who is in search of his younger brother, who had fled the communal riots. Revathi (Saranya) a weaver in Thoothukudi, who is neck deep in debt and penury.

Cable Raja, pretending he is a wealthy, is in a relationship with a rich girl hoping he could get rich the smart way. The d-day arrives when the girl wants to introduce Cable Raja to her parents. Bharath walks out on his mother and leaves to Chennai to attend a rock concert, which he believes will give him the break, he has been longing for. His rock band drives to Chennai but gets a flat tyre on the way. When Bharath's friends leave to fix the tyre, he is left alone with his girlfriend on the lonely highway. A gang of ruffians encounter the couple, subdue Bharath and abduct with his girlfriend. How can he rescue her?

Saroja had reached the height of tolerance servicing her clients day in and day out. In the brothel, an abusive police inspector ravages her repeatedly. Saroja, along with her trans gendered friend, give a slip to the inspector and her madam, and flee to Chennai. Lusty men  are always on Saroja's trail. Will she be independent make a living for herself?

Hamid, his pregnant wife and younger brother get stuck in the middle of a radical right wing procession. They get viciously attacked and Hamid's wife suffers a miscarriage. An Inspector, who is also a right wing sympathizer, frees the attackers and insults Hamid for his religion. Humiliated and denied justice, Hamid's brother flees home. Hamid goes in search of his brother, who vowed he would fight back. Can Hamid find his brother and bring him home?

Struggling weavers Revathi and her father-in-law owe Rs.40,000 to a loan shark. Their only hope in life is Revathi's son, who is a topper in academics. When the loan goes unpaid. the loan shark takes away Revathi's son and puts him on bonded labour in a salt pan. With no other way to give her son an education, Revathi decides to sell her kidney through a broker, who brings her to a doctor. The sincere doctor, suspecting a commercial kidney transplant turns down Revathi. Can Revathi sell her kidney to manage the money, which would grant her child's freedom?

Vaanam's first half brings you to this edge of the seat situation. What would happen if these individuals' struggling lives overlap? That is revealed in one of the most fast phased scenes ever seen in Kollywood.

Director Krish hasn't just got a new name in Kollywood, but had earned a velvet seat too. The story, screenplay and appealing editing is bolted tight, with not the slightest of space for flaws. Five stories within one, which are edited with equal importance and flow to all the characters is Anthony Gonsalves' magic. Nirav Shah's camera quickly adapts to dusty villages to crowded slums to posh dance floors with ease. Cinematography in the thrilling climax scene, along with Yuvanshankar Raja's heart thumping music is a huge bonus. Cable Raja is Simbhu's best role till date. He had abandoned his cliched' young guy image, and had lived the character and its emotions. We opine, last decade was Simbhu's honeymoon phase in Kollywood, some demanding roles are headed the actor's way henceforth.

Santhanam as Tan- tana-tan Cheenu has repeated the partnership he offered with Arya and Karthee, in Boss Engira Baskaran and Siruthai. Anushka as the mirchi hot sex worker is too hot to handle this summer. Vaanam's first half is reserved for 'Evan Di Unna Pethan', the rest of the songs perfectly swing with the moods on screen. Saranya as the impoverished weaver is the poignant face of our struggling farmers and artisans in rural India. Her tale throws light on the atrocious bonded labour widely prevalent in our country. Happy go lucky Cable Raja, throughout his escapades says “Enna Vazhka Da” (What a life!). We saw, wow, what an entertainer! 

Senior Hero Akkineni Nageswara Rao Seeks Law Against Plastic

Veteran actor Akkineni Nageswara Rao has launched a campaign for the ban of plastic at the Secretariat in Hyderabad on Thursday.

Talking at a meeting organized by the Secretariat Cultural Association to give impetus to promotion of cloth bags, he emphasized that a change in people's mindset and a government policy to discourage manufacture of plastic bags is needed to wean people away from using plastic bags.

The Padma Vibhushan awardee said once people realized the harm caused to environment due to non-biodegradable plastic bags, their use would gradually decline. He also shared some tips with the audience that helped him remain physically fit and active even at his age.

Veteran Film Maker K Balachander Conferred Dada Saheb Phalke Award For 2010 Year

Veteran filmmaker k balachander has been conferred Dada Saheb Phalke Award for the year 2010.

The award is conferred by the Government of India for outstanding contribution to the growth and development of Indian Cinema.

The award consists of a Swarn Kamal, a cash prize of Rs 10 lakhs and a shawl. The award is given on the recommendations of a committee of eminent persons.         

k balachander has been film director, screen play writer and producer for more than 45 years.  He has written, directed and produced more than 100 films in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Kannada.

Balachander is known for his distinct film-making style.  The films he scripts and directs analyze unusual or complicated inter-personal relationships and social themes.

Balachander has the uncanny knack of spotting talent.  He has been responsible for bringing into limelight many stars of the present day, including Rajnikanth, Kamal Haasan, Prakashraaj and Vivek.

Born in Thanjavur District, Tamil Nadu in July 1930, Balachander came into prominence as a playwright with his dynamic plays like ‘Major Chandrakanth’, ‘Server Sundaram’, ‘Naanal’ and ‘Neerkumizhi’.  These plays enjoyed huge popular and critical acclaim.

He entered the film industry in 1965 and shot into fame with his very first film ‘Neerkumizhi’ starring Nagesh.  Since then he has directed and produced a number of movies which have won many National Awards, awards from the StateGovts. and other organizations.  Some of the prominent films he has directed include ‘Apoorva Raagagal’, ‘Avargal’ ’47Natkal’, ‘Sindhu Bhairavi, ‘Ek Duuje Ke Liye’ (Hindi), ‘Maro Charithra, and ‘Rudraveena’ in Teluguand ‘Bekiyalli AralidaHoovu, in Kannada.

For the last few years, Balachander has also turned his attention to the small screen and has brought to it the same perfection and intensity that he exhibited on the big screen.

He was conferred the Padma Shri in 1987 and was honoured with the title ‘Kalaimamani’ by the Tamil Nadu Government in 1973. He has also won the Golden Nandi award and Silver Nandi awards from Govt of Andhra Pradesh and has also won the Filmfare award as Best Director numerous times.

Some of the films of k balachander which have won National Film Awards are: Irku Kodugal (Tamil) in 1969, Apporva Raagangal (Tamil) in 1975, Thaneer Thaneer (Tamil) in 1981, Achamillai Achamillai (Tamil) in 1984.  Rudraveena (Telugu) has won Nargis Dutt Award for Best Feature Film on national Integration in 1988 and Oru Veedu Iru Vaasal (Tamil) won National Best Film Award on social issues in 1991.

Super Star Rajinikanth Hospitalized In Chennai

Popular actor Rajnikanth was on Friday admitted to a private hospital in Chennai after he complained of dizziness, according to reports reaching here. The doctors in the hospital reportedly stated that the superstar’s blood pressure had shot up and there was no danger to his life.

A statement was also released by the hospital in which the doctors said that there was no danger to the actor’s life. The popular actor was advised to take complete rest for one week. According to reports reaching here, Rajnikanth is likely to be discharged by Saturday evening.

Incidentally, filming for the 60-year-old actor’s film ‘Rana’ was due to begin on Friday. The actor is believed to be essaying the roles of three characters in this film. This would be first major film after the blockbuster hit ‘The Robot’. The film will also start Bollywood starlet Deepika Padukone.

Jeevitha-Rajasekhar Cry, Attack Jagan Mohan Reddy

After keeping silent for the last couple of months, actor-couple Dr Rajasekhar and Jeevitha, as expected, have come out of YSR Congress Party floated by former Kadapa MP Y S Jaganmohan Reddy.

On Friday, the couple broke down in front of the media saying they had been completely ignored in the Jagan party.

“The only ambition of Jagan is to become chief minister of the state immediately. He wants to be a monarch in the party and does not want anybody to get focused. He was envious at the way me and Jeevitha hogging the limelight at his Vijayawada deeksha. Since then, he has been keeping us at bay,” Rajasekhar said, bursting into tears.

Rajasekhar said they could not get enough recognition even in the Congress party, despite their selfless service.

“We were invited into the Congress by former chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy only to take on Praja Rajyam Party president Chiranjeevi. We were asked to campaign in the constituencies, wherever the PRP was strong. We ensured that except in one constituency, the Congress had won in all the constituencies, where we had campaigned. Now, the same Congress party has invited Chiranjeevi to merge his party with it,” he said.

By attacking the Congress and the Jagan party, Jeevitha and Rajasekhar had given enough hints that they would be joining the TDP, which is also desperately looking for star appearances.

Hero Daggubati Rana's Twitter Business @ Rs 2 Crore

Lately, a new phase of Daggubati Rana is being revealed, not as an actor but as a strategist. He is using this acumen to promote his films and thereby he is helping his producers as well. Apparently, Rana is now using the social networking as a tool and this is likely to fetch some good returns to his producer.

Apparently, the famous Twitter site has got RGV fans following it and they are touching nearly 125000. Now, sources say Rana is trying to cross that. On the other hand, the noted Red FM channel is having a contest for Rana’s new movie ‘Nenu Naa Rakshasi’.

The listeners have to go through Rana’s tweets and watch the film to answer the question. Currently, Rana has a following of 1.25 lakhs in Twitter. It doesn’t mean that every body on his twitter should watch the movie but majority will do certainly.

So, even on average if each tweeter goes to watch the movie along with one of his friends the number gets doubled up to 2.5 lakh. Taking 2 lakh in average case scenario and pricing each ticket at Rs 100 on an average, this will result in Rs 2 crores to producer through twitter. That way, Rana is using Radio FM and social networking and getting 2 crores. All this is purely on hypothesis but even if 50% of calculation works, the strategy is a success. Good going Rana.

Expectations Are Very High on Ajith's 50th Movie Mankatha

No sooner the news that Ajith is playing the role of an anti hero in Mankatha spread, than the expectations on the movie has increased high among Ajith fans.

Directed by Venkat Prabhu, the movie is intrerestingly Ajith's 50th movie. Playing his female lead in Trisha. Arjun, Lakshmi Rai and Vaibhav are also in the cast. Music is by Yuvan Shankar Raja.

Sources said the role played by Ajith is similar to the ones we have seen in Sivaji doing in Andhaa Naal or Shahrukh Khan doing it in Baazigar. Venkat Prabhu has created his role in such an interesting manner that everyone would love it.
